Carthusian Office...
Psallite Sapienter has an excellent post on an old 1717 edition of the Carthusian Breviary. Click on the link to have a nosey!

A Elbereth Gilthoniel o menel palan-diriel, le nallon sí di-nguruthos! A tiro nin, Fanuilos!
Very kind of you to note this! There used to be a nice downloadable file of the Carthusian Office of Our Lady, but - before I downloaded it - the person who put it online took it down. So, hurry...
ReplyDeleteDo you make any use of Our Lady's Hours?
Am enjoying your bloggings, by the way; if you like, tell us more about the Marian echoes evident in Varda, Galadriel, etc.; I recall from reading Tolkien's letters years ago that he somewhere writes of this.
Joshua,
ReplyDeleteI was not aware of a downloadable file of the Carthusian Office of Our Lady - I shall search for it (when I have time). Yes I do have a Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary - but, it's in accordance with the rubrics of '62 unfortunately - still, it's a handsome little blue tome.
Yes, there are various allusions in Tolkien's correspondences about Marian archetypes in Varda, Galadriel etc. The most interesting of these, I think, is a letter he sent to Robert Murray, SJ in 1953. It's letter no. 142 if you still have a copy, although, as you say, I may put something up about it later on...Thanks for your comment!
